We have multiple ways for you to be involved in the department. We offer many different volunteer opportunities from a firefighter, resident firefighter, EMT, driver/ operator or anything in between- all with schedules to fit your life.

What is a Volunteer Firefighter?
A volunteer firefighter is someone who has a strong desire to serve their community through volunteering their time to help others. As a volunteer firefighter with WFD, you will have the opportunity to receive high level training to prepare you to respond to all hazard emergencies, attend school and community events, assist in prevention opportunities like inspections and fire investigations and many others.
As a Resident Firefighter you live at the fire station and respond to all risk emergencies including fires, medical aids, rescues, and many more. WFD responds to multiple wildland fires throughout the state and resident firefighters have the opportunity to gain great on the job training while on these fires. This live-in firefighter program prepares you for all aspects of the fire service. Most resident firefighters are attending College of the Siskiyous to complete the fire academy, EMT or Paramedic Program. The Weed City Fire Department provides training and experience to prepare you for a career in the fire service. Although previous experience and training is a benefit, it is NOT required. We provide at no cost to you ALL of the training required to complete the FireFighter and entry level medical certifications.
No, a college degree is not required however a copy of your high school diploma or G.E.D. is a requirement.
Typically the process can take as little as 2 months or as long as 6 months but overall it depends on the applicant and how diligent they are to complete each step.
