Meet Our Mayor and Council

The City Council is the legislative body of the City government and is composed of five Council Members elected for overlapping four-year terms.  The City Council is responsible for formulating policies for the City and approving major actions.  The Council Members choose one of their Members to serve as Mayor for a one-year term.  The Mayor presides over meetings of the Council, and votes as a Member of the Council, but has no veto power.  The Mayor represents the City government in all official and ceremonial matters.

The regular meetings of the City Council are held the second Thursday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m.  Adjourned and special meetings may be held at times and dates selected by the Council.  Meetings are held in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 550 Main Street, Weed, California.  Committee meetings, inspection trips, and informal conferences may be required so that Members are completely informed on the many issues that come before them. Council Members regularly meet with other officials of federal, state, and other local governments and organizations regarding matters of concern to municipal government.

FPPC

The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) of California prohibits a public official from using his or her official position to influence a governmental decision in which he or she knows or has reason to know he or she has a financial interest (Gov. Code Section 87100).  To help identify potential conflicts of interest, the law requires officials to file forms called Statements of Economic Interest (SEIs), also known as Form 700s.  This form is also called the Conflict of Interest Form.  Copies of the statements of economic interest filed by the above-named officers may be obtained by visiting the office of the City Clerk, or in some cases, available through the California Fair Political Practices Commission in electronic format.

The citizens of Weed are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings of the City Council.  For those who cannot participate in person, meetings are broadcast by 22nd Avenue Broadcast Logistics at www.22ave.tv/weed.
