OBJECTIVES: The Transportation Development Act created in each county a Local Transportation Fund to be used for transportation purposes specified in the Act. This Act was enacted at the time that sales tax was applied to gasoline. The revenues are derived from 1/4 cent of the 6 cent retail sales tax collected statewide. The 1/4 cent is returned to the county where the tax was collected. The county then apportions the amount as determined by the Local Transportation Commission. The purpose of these funds include
payment to certain entities under contract with a city for transit services, payments to the National Railroad Passenger Corporation for passenger rail service, and local streets and roads including facilities provided for the exclusive use by pedestrians and bicycles.
LEVEL OF SERVICE: To provide the level of financing necessary to meet the unmet transit needs of the citizens of Weed through the operation of STAGE system.
